The 53rd annual event in Nebraska City starts this weekend, followed by events on Sept. My research has examined these issues among children and adolescents in the Philippines, Brazil, Kenya, Turkey, Mexico and the U.S. Apples at Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard at the Applejack Festival in Nebraska City. In my research, I examine the factors that help children and adolescents develop prosocial behaviors (e.g., volunteerism, cooperativeness) and explore how culture impacts upon children's development. As a Nebraska Extension faculty member, I work directly in the community to conduct research-based programming, develop educational materials and disseminate information that can help youth gain skills that will make them successful and productive members of society. Among my current projects, I am studying long-distance parenting strategies among rural-to-urban domestic care workers in the Philippines socialization goals and ethnotheories of Asian American families in the Midwestern United States, determinants of quality of life in rural ethnic minorities in the United States, and the experiences and determinants of wellbeing among Filipino migrants in Poland. A mix of tradition and evolution, Kimmel Orchard’s dedication to agricultural education, research and historic preservation continues to produce unique, fun and memorable. My research has covered these issues among children, youth and families in Kenya, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, the United States and the Philippines.
